Quotes of the moment

“Anger is just anger. It isn’t good. It isn’t bad. It just is. What you do with it is what matters. It’s like anything else. You can use it to build or to destroy. You just have to make the choice.”

“Constructive anger,” the demon said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

“Also known as passion,” I said quietly. “Passion has overthrown tyrants and freed prisoners and slaves. Passion has brought justice where there was savagery. Passion has created freedom where there was nothing but fear. Passion has helped souls rise form the ashes of their horrible lives and build something better, stronger, more beautiful.”

Lasciel narrowed her eyes.

“In point of fact,” I said quietly, “that kind of thing really doesn’t get done without passion. Anger is one of the things that can help build it — if it’s controlled.”

— Jim Butcher, White Night

Life’s easier when you can write off others as monsters, as demons, as horrible threats that must be hated and feared. The thing is, you can’t do that without becoming them, just a little.

— Jim Butcher, White Night (The same chapter, in fact.)

  1. Of course these quotes are just a dig at me.

  2. Of course, everything I do in my life is meant only as a “dig” at you. Of course.

Of course, I couldn’t possibly have put this up as food for thought, as a conciliatory gesture, rather than out of purely antagonistic motives. Of course.

Of course, your insistent presumptions of the basest motives on my part is not in the least insulting. Of course.

Of course, you are never, ever wrong when you presume to tell me my thoughts and motives, instead of asking. Of course.

Of course, when you are wrong, you always always admit it the moment you realize it and apologize thoroughly. Of course.

(In case it slipped by, that was sarcasm.)

  3. Of course it would slip by. Of course you think I’m not smart enough. Of course.

  4. Of course, I always go on for hours on end about how unintelligent you are. Of course.

Of course, you never pretend not to understand when I’m being sarcastic, and use that feigned ignorance against me in an effort to make me feel guilty. Of course.

Of course, you always “win” when you put conversations on the level of some stupid game where whoever scores the most points wins, and you never, ever even need to think about how to lose with grace and dignity. Of course.

And, of course, it is not possible to hold a conversation wherein both sides are trying to reach understanding, instead of simply scoring points and hurting the other side as much as possible. Of course.
