OK, this drives me bonkers. If you don’t know how to use a word, then don’t use it. If you kind of, sort of, know the right word, but go for a sort-of homonym, take a moment to actually look up the meaning of the word you are about to use.

It will save you embarrassment.

Really.

Ms. Gina Keating, apparently an entertainment “writer” for Reuters, tells us that Disney is banking on the upcoming film Enchanted to kick off their next franchise. In the process, she flaunts her ignorance of the English language thusly:

The irony of Disney flaunting the conventions of the very films on which the company was built was one idea that excited the film’s makers.

I don’t care how many people use “flaunt” to mean “flout“, the two are not the same.

Humph!
