Speaking of Manliness…

It’s only going to be there another 24 hours, so go there quick — AICN is (briefly) hosting the first footage from John Rambo, Sly Stallone’s second smackdown of modern pansy movies in two years.

Rocky Balboa was, by all accounts, far better than anyone had any right to expect.

But John Rambo looks jaw-droppingly excellent and Un-Politically-Correct enough to melt professors’ brains from coast to coast just at the mention of the title. When I heard they were making it, I thought it would be a sad joke. Seeing this footage… Yee–damn–HAW! I think Sly’s pulling a two-fer!

Be warned: it is not for the faint of heart. If you don’t want to see a graphic representation of what a .50 caliber vehicle–mounted machine gun does to the human body at point blank range, give it a pass.

  1. Yes, Rocky Balboa was better than anybody had a right to expect. It was small, unpretentious, well acted and it had a good story.

If you can suspend disbelief that a 60 year-old Vietnam veteran isn’t an arthritic wreck, John Rambo looks to be an excellent action gore-fest.

I don’t think there’s much of a message, except “some people need killin’.”

Oh, and “When it absolutely, positively has to be destroyed overnight, call the Americans.”

Of course, that’s about as un-PC as it comes.

  3. Checking: Okay, done. No, not all old Viet vets have arthritis, some, gasp, even run marathons, regularly workout and not to a Jane Fonda tape but with free weights.

  5. Fits, I rather imagine that the only workout Jane Fonda’s tapes get among Nam vets is during target practice. 🙂
