Joss Whedon is… isn’t… sob… oh, read it for yourself:

I’m no longer slated to make Wonder Woman. What? But how? My chest… so tight! Okay, stay calm and I’ll explain as best I can. It’s pretty complicated, so bear with me. I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked. Hey, not that complicated.

Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that’s never gonna work. Non-sympatico. It happens all the time. I don’t think any of us expected it to this time, but it did. Everybody knows how long I was taking, what a struggle that script was, and though I felt good about what I was coming up with, it was never gonna be a simple slam-dunk. I like to think it rolled around the rim a little bit, but others may have differing views.

The picture is still going forward, but who the hell can bring Wonder Woman to life as well as Whedon had the potential of doing?

(Hey, Joss? You’ve got publishing rights to your script — standard in any WGA approved contract — why not post it?)

  1. It had been a long time since I heard anything on this project and I assumed no news was bad news. In my mind this picture still exists, Charisma Carpenter has the lead, Frank Vignola does the soundtrack, and it won several Oscars…

  3. Charisma Carpenter’s beautiful, but she ain’t a goddess, and I’ve yet to see any work from her that convinces me she would be up to carrying a feature film. A few people suggested (in AICN talkbacks, maybe?) that the lead should go to an experienced Indian actress, which could work.

But without Joss guiding things, I’m expecting a typical Joel Silver crapfest — at least until a new creative team is announced.
